So while it’s certainly nice to see even more of Rowling’s knowledge about the wizarding world shared, one hopes we don’t get into “overkill” mode in the name of corporate promotion. Obviously the timing coincides with the Cursed Child fervor and in anticipation of the release of the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which boasts Rowling’s first screenplay credit and takes place 100 years before Potter. The three eBooks are as follows: Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide dives into the history of the wizarding school, including extra insight into the Hogwarts ghosts and what happens when the Sorting Hat can’t make up his mind Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Political and Pesky Poltergeists focuses on the darker aspects of the wizarding world, including a history of Azakaban prison, more information on Umbridge’s tenure at the Ministry of Magic, and a new piece of writing by Rowling on Horace Slughorn’s relationship with the young Voldemort and finally Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies, which focuses on the staff of Hogwarts and includes a new piece of writing from Rowling on Professor McGonagall’s involvement in the second wizarding war.
